This thirteen-house recording matters out of proportion to its size, because it is where Claude Oakland's name first appears on a Palo Alto Eichler tract. Oakland had been working inside Anshen & Allen; he would open his own office and go on to design more of the late Eichlers than anyone.
His handling is distinguishable from Jones & Emmons — more varied roof geometry, a more sculptural approach to the entry, and a willingness to close the street face harder in exchange for a more dramatic interior. The recorded lots run along Middlefield Road.
What was built here
The classic period. Larger plans, more assured roof geometry, longer glass runs — and, from about 1957, the atrium: an open-air room dropped into the middle of the plan. Whether a given house has one is the first question to ask.
What moves the number in Middlefield Road
- Claude Oakland's Palo Alto debut. Every later Oakland tract on this list descends from here.
- Thirteen houses on a busy road. Position along it matters.
- 1959 plans with atrium models available.
What is it worth?
We price Middlefield Road the way it was built.
By tract, by architect, by what is still intact. Tell us the address and we will come back with the range and the reasoning behind it — not an automated estimate.
Before they hit the market
Most Middlefield Road homes we sell never reach a portal.
Owners in these tracts tend to know each other. When one decides to move, we usually hear first. Join the list and you will hear early too — no volume, no drip campaign.
